Summer on a Plate in Warsaw: Discover Seasonal Classics in the New Town
Summer in Warsaw’s New Town (Nowe Miasto) has a unique rhythm. It is a time when the freshest Polish fruits, vegetables, and herbs take center stage in the kitchen, and a stroll down Freta Street naturally leads to places rooted in tradition. At Pod Samsonem – where we have been cultivating Warsaw flavors since 1958 – we have prepared summer offerings that combine iconic Polish classics with refreshing seasonal accents. See what’s worth sampling this season!
Blueberry Pierogi: The Symbols of Seasonal Cuisine
There are dishes we look forward to all year long that taste best right now. The first is our traditional cold beet soup (chłodnik) – intensely pink, prepared with fresh young beet greens, fragrant with dill, and served with a perfectly boiled egg. Rich in vitamins and full of flavor, it offers an incredible depth of taste.
For lovers of sweeter accents, we have prepared the hit of the season: homemade pierogi with fresh blueberries. Wrapped in delicate, velvety dough and served with a dollop of sour cream and a pinch of sugar, they are a culinary postcard from the Polish forests. Limited availability – be sure to ask your server if they are still available before taking your seat!
And for dessert? An unpretentious ice cream sundae with fruits and whipped cream – simple, time-tested pleasures are always the best.
From Tender Schnitzel to Savory Pierogi
The menu at Pod Samsonem also offers a rich selection of main courses, ideal for a family lunch or a dinner with friends. Our veal schnitzel, gently tenderized, fried to a golden crisp, and served with a slice of fresh lemon and a fried egg, is a tribute to traditional culinary craftsmanship. As an added touch, you'll find tzimmes on your plate – a traditional Ashkenazi delicacy made from sweet carrots and dried fruits and nuts.
If you are looking for something heartier, we recommend our juicy steak with herb butter, peppercorn sauce, and crispy fries – a bold dish made from the highest quality meat.
For those seeking lighter options, we offer ingredient-rich salads made with fresh vegetables and house-made dressings: with smoked salmon, grilled chicken, or a classic Greek salad featuring premium feta and olives.
Meanwhile, fans of timeless classics will find their favorite savory pierogi (filled with meat, ruskie with potato & cheese, or sauerkraut & mushroom) alongside our rich, traditional sour rye soup (żurek) – brewed according to a recipe our guests have cherished for over sixty years. You can order it served in a hollowed-out bread bowl or traditionally in fine porcelain.
Refreshing Drinks for Young and Old
A great meal requires the right pairing. Our homemade lemonade – prepared fresh on-site with fresh mint, citrus slices, and our signature brown sugar syrup – offers the perfect balance between sweetness and fruity zest.
For afternoon and evening gatherings, we also recommend our extensive bar menu. We have prepared traditional and signature alcoholic cocktails, as well as a carefully curated selection of mocktails (0% ABV) that impress with rich flavors and pair beautifully with any dish from our menu.
Freta Street: A Place for a Leisurely Meal
The best food is the kind enjoyed without a rush. Our restaurant and comfortable, spacious outdoor garden on Freta Street create the ideal space to take a break during a stroll through the Old and New Town. Tucked away from the biggest crowds and surrounded by historic townhouses, you can relax and savor our seasonal specialties.
